Para-Athletics Classifications

Understand sport-class labels, context, and the limits of StrideSignal's role.

What classifications are

Para-athletics uses sport classes to organize competition for athletes with eligible impairments and different activity limitations. Track classes generally use T and field classes generally use F. The number identifies a sport-class grouping under the governing rules; it is not a diagnosis.

Why context matters

Athletes in different classes should not be directly compared without the rules and event context that make the comparison meaningful. Equipment, guide or tether rules, seated or standing technique, implement specifications, and event availability can differ.

How StrideSignal displays classes

The selected class appears on the athlete profile and beside results. Standard comparisons require the result and standard to match the class. Historical class changes remain visible but are not silently merged into a current-class benchmark.

Sources

Use the World Para Athletics classification overview and the official World Para Athletics Classification Rules and Regulations. StrideSignal's classification directory gives a plain-language starting point and retains source and verification dates.

Important limitation

StrideSignal does not evaluate athletes, determine eligibility, or issue official classification decisions. Only the authorized classification body and appointed classifiers can do that. Confirm the current rules and the athlete's official status before competition.
