Standards and Progress
Understand A and B standards, eligibility matching, progress percentages, and remaining improvement.
What A and B mean
StrideSignal displays the A and B labels exactly as they appear in the loaded USA Track & Field - Paralympics standards source. They are published benchmarks used with the source's stated competition or ranking-list system. Meeting a displayed mark does not by itself guarantee entry, selection, eligibility, funding, or classification approval.
How a standard is selected
A standard must match the source authority, season, event, sport class, gender category, venue, and age group used by the athlete profile. StrideSignal does not substitute a different class, gender category, season, or event when a matching value is unavailable. Standards are stored as published values; official USA Para A and B marks are not estimated by StrideSignal.
Progress for timed events
Lower is better. The displayed progress is:
progress percent = standard time / athlete time * 100Example: a 12.00-second performance compared with an 11.40-second standard is 11.40 / 12.00 * 100 = 95.00%. The athlete needs 12.00 - 11.40 = 0.60 seconds of improvement.
Progress for jumps and throws
Higher is better. The displayed progress is:
progress percent = athlete distance / standard distance * 100Example: a 5.70 m long jump compared with a 6.00 m standard is 5.70 / 6.00 * 100 = 95.00%. The athlete needs 6.00 - 5.70 = 0.30 m of improvement.
Limitations
Only positive finite marks are calculated. Missing standards, missing performances, invalid units, incompatible classes, and excluded results display an explanation instead of zero, NaN, or infinity. Progress can exceed 100% after a standard is achieved. Displayed marks are rounded, but calculations retain full precision.
